Representing Pakistan Punjab University athletes Abdur Rehman and Zarq Khan delivered an outstanding performance at the 1-Minute Sprint Event of the World Rowing Indoor virtual Championship, securing remarkable achievements in the Under-21 Men categories.
Gold Medal – 21-22 Lightweight Men (1 Minute).
Muhammad Abdul Rehman (Pakistan) clinched 1st place with an impressive distance of 377 meters, outperforming strong competitors from France and Egypt. Accordint to scoreboard, Luca Delval (France) claimed 374m, Youssef Abdelaziz (Egypt) 374m and Egor Marinov (AIN) 333m.
This gold medal highlights Pakistan’s growing dominance in indoor rowing, particularly in the lightweight category.
Silver Medal – 21-22 Men (Open Category, 1 Minute)
In the Open 21-22 Men category, Zark Khan (Pakistan) secured 2nd place with a powerful performance of 385 meters. According to scoreboard, Vladislav Andersons (Latvia) 394m, Zark Khan (Pakistan) 385m, Finn Söllner (Germany) 379m, Ivo Bouchal (Czech Republic) 377m and Yi Ming Pan (China) 371m. Pakistan has won one gold and one silver medal at the World Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships.
Abdul Rahman of Punjab University won the gold medal in the lightweight category Punjab University's Zarq Khan bagged a silver medal in open weight.
In the lightweight category, Abdul Rahman of Punjab University won the first position, France remained second and Egypt third.
In open weight, Latvia won the first position, Pakistan Punjab University's Zarq Khan got the second position and Germany got the third position. The virtual indoor competitions held across the world while Pakistan Rowing Feferstion participated in the event from the Punjab University Sports Gymnasium at New Campus Lahore. Present on this occasion were Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali and Secretary Pakistan Olympics Association Khalid Mehmood as chief guests while PU Director Sports Dr Shabbir Sarwar, Hamdan Nazirv President Pakistan Rowing Federation, Rizwanul Haque Razi Secretary Islamabad Olympic Association, Zaheer Ahmed Secretary Pakistan Rowing Federation, Major Irfan Secretary Pakistan Boxing Federation and Abdul Rehman coach Pakistan Rowing Team were present while talking to the media, Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Ali said that the first position of Abdul Rehman of PU Law College and the second position of Zarq Khan of Hailey College in international competitions is all a success very good news for whole country and Punjab University. He thanked POA, Rowing Federation and their management and expressed best wishes more achievements of the country and PU in the incoming competitions. PU Director Sports Dr Shabbir Sarwar especially thanked Secretary Pakistan Olympic Association Khalid Mahmood for his support and commitment to Pakistan sports and expressed more future collaborations with Punjab University. He also thanked Pakistan Rowing Federation president Mr Hamdan Nazir and Pakistan Rowing Coach cum PU Rowing Coach Mr Abdur Rehman for great achievement.
